Maureen Wright

Maureen WrightSadly I have to report the death of Maureen Wright who lost her battle with cancer on 25th February 2011. The funeral was held on Friday 4th March. Donations to the Hospice of the Valleys, Parkgate Business Centre, Morgan Street, Tredegar, NP22 3ND.

Maureen was a long serving and loyal member of our Club. Small in stature but huge in personality. The life and soul of the party. Those who witnessed it can never forget the Singing in the Rain routine. Persuasive whether selling raffle tickets or cards for the Whisky draw, or getting hard pressed traders to part with free samples and prizes for Bedlington events or herself. Maureen was always successful where others failed. It always paid to go round the trade stands with Maureen if you were looking for the best deal.

Maureen was most helpful to me when I came into the breed in 1995, showing me the ropes and giving me useful tips. She was also instrumental in persuading me to ask Terry Hunter to sell me a puppy. Jossolli Juliana became my first champion and my foundation bitch. Without Maureen that might never have happened.

Toffset Bedlingtons were a familiar sight on the show scene for many years. But when she had only champions left to show Maureen turned more to fishing and became a keen angler. She and Elwyn frequently went on fishing trips usually with close friends Angela and Stuart Yearley, Sandra and Tony Waller and Tina and Tony Welsh. Their exploits became a regular feature on the Bedlington Pictures blog. Typically Maureen found an alternative use for dry dog food. Apparently it makes excellent coarse fishing bait.

But it is as a winner and first class handler in the show ring that I shall most remember Maureen, and as a keen competitor and all round lovely person. Our thoughts are with Elwyn and the family at this sad time.
