It is with sadness I report the death of Betty Cullen a most loyal supporter of our Club. Betty was one of only two life members of the Club, and although it is many years since she and her late husband Peter showed their dogs Betty always continued to take great interest in what was happening in the Club and was pleased to receive any news. Betty was a great letter writer - a gift that is rarely possessed these days, especially the hand written variety. Betty and Peter made many friends and Betty loved to correspond with them. The news of her death came to me on 27th November in an email from Chris Pick, who had it from Betty's son Chris. Although I never met her, since I became Secretary I have often exchanged letters with her, and came to feel that I knew her quite well. As a life member Betty was always sent information on Club activities, and she always acknowledged this with a letter and a donation. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, and we especially think of Chris, his wife Julie, and their sons and their families at this time.
The funeral service was held at 1.00 pm on Thursday 10th December at Lincoln St Georges Parish Church, Swallowbeck, Lincoln. A tribute was paid by Chris to a kind, caring and generous mother and friend, a description instantly recognised by all who knew her. The Club was represented by Chris and Pearl Pick, Harvey Bell and Dorothy and Derek Owen. The service was followed by burial at North Hykeham Cemetery, Mill Lane, North Hykeham. Floral tributes from family only had been requested, and mourners were invited to make donations to The British Heart Foundation. A donation was made on behalf of the Club.
Peter's ashes were buried in Betty's coffin with her - the love that endures reunited in death.
It was obvious from her letters that Betty was a lovely LADY - Harvey says only capital letters will do her justice.
